Last week we started a short series on the ministry of John the Baptist. He was Jesus' cousin, a man who had a large and successful ministry when he baptized Jesus in the Jordan River. On Friday, we heard that when John announced Jesus as the "Lamb of God," two of his disciples left him to follow Jesus. John must have been enormously satisfied, as his ministry was to announce the coming of Jesus. Let's jump back into the story and finish this series:

Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them, “What are you seeking?” They replied, “Rabbi” … “where are you staying?” “Come and see,” he said. It was about four o’clock in the afternoon when they went with him to the place where he was staying, and they remained with him the rest of the day. (John 1:38-39)

Jesus asked a lot of deep questions to his disciples. In Matt. 16:15-16 he asked, "Who do you say that I am?" And in Luke 6:46 he asked, "Why do you call Me Lord but don't do what I say?" When these two disciples left John and started to follow Jesus, Jesus asked them this question: “What are you seeking?” That's a good question for all of us. What would we say if Jesus turned to face us, looked us in the eye, and asked, "What are you seeking?" Would we ask what those two disciples asked: "Where are you staying?" Really? Face to face with the Messiah, the Lamb of God, they asked Jesus where He was staying! But surprisingly, Jesus simply replied: "Come and see" and then he spent the rest of the afternoon with them. Today, remember that Jesus is your Lord, your Savior, and your Friend. He cares about you and me. He cares about our small questions and our big questions. He isn't in a hurry to find someone more interesting to talk with. He cares about what we care about—and He’s still inviting all those who seek Him to come and see…and that is very Good News!
