Does God have a plan for the world? When you watch or read the news, and then look at the state of the world around us, do you ever wonder how this fits in with God’s eternal plan? Sometimes it’s hard to imagine what God’s up to! Everything seems to be racing along, out of control, with no discernable pattern—except that people want to live life their own way. Does this make you afraid? If so, then today's passage from Psalm 22 might just be for you:
The whole earth will acknowledge the Lord and return to him. All the families of the nations will bow down before him. For royal power belongs to the Lord. He rules all the nations. (Psa. 22:27-28)
This passage declares that whatever happens, God is in control of His world. One day, when God winds it all up, all of the nations of this world will bow down to Him in worship. China, India, Iraq, Argentina, Australia, Indonesia, the US, even Russia—will bow down and worship God. Does that challenge your faith? You might say, “That sounds great Dave, but how is God going to do that?” The answer is: I don’t know! It’s not my business to know how God’s going to do it—my business is to obey God today, then follow the direction of the Holy Spirit, and do what He tells me to do. If God is able to create this world and set in motion all of the physical laws of the universe, He is able to make this little corner of His creation bow down and worship Him. The Bible is clear about this. Let’s listen to it again: “The whole earth will acknowledge the Lord and return to him. All the families of the nations will bow down before him. For royal power belongs to the Lord. He rules all the nations.” The whole earth; all the families; all the nations. Everybody everywhere will someday bow down to worship our God. But you and I don’t have to wait. We can start right now...and that is very Good News!
“Nothing is more vital than prayer in Christian existence, and few things are more vulnerable to neglect.”
