Have you ever had the experience of wanting to do something for God but didn't think you could do it? That's the best kind! Things that we can do on our own are nice, but things we need supernatural help to do are the most rewarding...because they require faith. The writer of Hebrews tells us in chapter 11:6 that without faith it's impossible to please God. It can be scary, but it's wonderfully empowering when we place our faith in God and He comes through for us. Today, let's consider a passage from Paul's letter to the Ephesians:

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. (Eph. 3:20)

I like this scripture! In our walk with Jesus, you and I are called to move forward in faith. I remember a number of times God called me to do something I didn't know if I could do—or even if God was actually saying to do it. In the earliest days of my Christian experience, I served with others to start a coffeehouse for outreach to young people. Later, my wife and I worked as youth leaders at two different churches. We organized local youth group leaders from a number of different churches in our region to meet and share what God was doing in our lives and how we might support each other. Later, there was the time our newly-constructed Habitat for Humanity house burned to the ground—but we watched, amazed, as a local construction company stepped up to rebuild it, at zero cost, led by a person I didn't even know. And then 25 years ago, I started sharing this devotional, not knowing if God would use it or if anyone would read it. What have I learned? God likes it when we act for Him in faith. As Paul said in today's passage, God can do far more than you and I could ever imagine or guess in our wildest dreams.

I'm talking to somebody today. God has put an idea in your head and you know you can't do it in your own ability. If you will trust Him and begin to act, He will respond in ways that will surprise and amaze you. God wants to use you to change the lives of people around you...and that is very Good News!
