I love the Psalms, don't you? Many were written to be set to music; some were poetry. Some were written by David but not all of them. When I first became a Christian I tried to write poetry to Jesus. I wasn't very good at it but I think God liked it anyway. Today's passage can help us as we seek to express ourselves to God, so let's listen to it:

Shout joyfully to God, all the earth; sing the glory of His name; make His praise glorious. Say to God, “How awesome are Your works! Because of the greatness of Your power Your enemies will pretend to obey You. All the earth will worship You, and will sing praises to You; they will sing praises to Your name.”  (Psa. 66:1-3)

This passage seems to be written as instruction for how to praise the Lord. First, the psalmist tells us what to do. He writes, "Shout joyfully to God, all the earth; sing the glory of His name; make His praise glorious." Do you ever shout and sing to God? Maybe you don't know how to do that. Maybe you were raised in a church that didn't do very much of that. Don't worry—David, our psalmist, is here to help us! Not only did he tell us what to do, he tells us how to do it. "Say to God, 'How awesome are Your works! Because of the greatness of Your power Your enemies will pretend to obey You. All the earth will worship You, and will sing praises to You; they will sing praises to Your name.'" How about that! Even God’s cowardly enemies bow before His power. Today, take some time to praise the Lord. Praise Him for doing awesome works! Praise Him for having awesome power! Praise Him for being worthy of all worship—not just by you and me but by everyone, everywhere, even by God’s cowardly enemies! Now you know what to do and how to do it...so get to it and shout joyfully to the Lord!
