Have you ever had a problem that you couldn't seem to solve? I’ve had many! I'm retired now, but when I was working, I often had technical problems that were simply over my head. I managed the construction of numerous projects to provide new, and repair old, water lines providing water to over a million customers in Northern Virginia. Before that, I also managed construction of roadways. In those jobs, problems came as a steady diet! God called me to do that work and often helped me to do it in interesting ways. Today's passage has been a great help to me over the years; perhaps it will help you too, so let's listen to it:

I will bless the Lord who guides me; even at night my heart instructs me. (Psa. 16:7)

When my problems at work were too much for me, I often turned to God in prayer. In fact, even though I'm retired now, I still do it...because I still have problems! Sometimes I slip to my knees right before getting into bed and ask God to help me figure out what to do. I’ve often awakened during the night or in the morning with a workable solution. In today's passage the psalmist says that his heart instructs him. But who put that instruction into his heart? God did, through His Holy Spirit! He knows our needs and when we ask Him, He instructs us.

How about you? Do you turn to God in prayer? I'm talking to someone today. You have some kind of besetting problem and can't figure out what to do about it. I encourage you to seek the Lord. Tonight, take a few moments to pray. Ask Him to tell you what to do about your problem. Thank Him and then go to bed. God wants to help you and me in practical ways, even while we sleep...and that is very Good News!
