When you think about God, do you think of Him sitting on a throne? Hanging on a cross? Laying in a manger? None of us really know God as well as we think we do. He's not a system for managing our lives better. He's not a way of being religious. He's not a ceremony for Sunday mornings. He's not a way of thinking about politics. I recently came across a passage in Psalm 89 that reminded me that there's a lot more I don't know about God than what I do know. I believe that's true for you, too, so let's listen to it:

Who is like you, Lord God Almighty? You, Lord, are mighty, and your faithfulness surrounds you. You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them…with your strong arm you scatter your enemies. The heavens are yours, and yours also the earth; you founded the world and all that is in it. (Psalm 89:8-11)

In today's passage, the psalmist declares that there isn't anyone like God. First, He's mighty. If you look up the Hebrew word for mighty, interestingly, it occurs only once in the entire Bible. Even His mightiness isn't like anyone else's! Second, He's not just mighty, He's also faithful. He's so faithful that He wears His faithfulness like a garment, wrapping Himself up in it. Third, God rules nature and its surging seas. He controls them. And if He wants to still the waves, He does. What else is different about God? How about this—He owns everything. Everything over our heads and everything beneath our feet. He owns it all, because He made it all! Today, take a few moments to celebrate the God of wonder, the God of Majesty. He's not like anyone else, anywhere...and that is very Good News!
